The early beginnings of the University dates from 2006 when the Faculty of economic and technical logistics was established. Immediately after, it was obtained a decision on opening and starting the Faculty of Economics. With constant and dedicated work of management and expert team, Ministry of education, science, culture and sports of Central Bosnia Canton also reached the decision on opening Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering in Travnik. In the beginning of academic 2010/2011 the Faculty of Ecology has begun its work by which studying programme was expanded with teaching-scientific areas of biotechnology. This is how the University satisfied requirements for the integration of International University Travnik (IUT) which was made official by decision of Government of Central Bosnia Canton no. 03-38-2/10-6 from 05th May, 2010. The integration process was acquired in May 2010. From academic 2011/2012 IUT has two more organizational units Faculty of Law and Faculty of Media and Communications and official decision was made by the Government of CBC no. 03-38-27 / 10-7 from 1.10.2010. Since the academic 2013/2014. the IUT has another two organizational unit Faculty of Polytechnical Sciences and Faculty of Informational Technology, which was made official by the decision of the Government of CBC no. 03-38-25 / 12 from 31.05.2012.
The objective of International University Travnik is to establish cooperation with elite universities in Europe and in the world that will provide students greater choice and their own influence on the creation of programs that listen and take, and studying at the partner institutions.
From the beginning, the organization and implementation of study programs is based on the Bologna Declaration.
The establishment, growth and development of the University was marked by the need to be in one, geographic and economic term in very important area, that educated professionals who would become the main carrier of the economic development of this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the same time, the goal was to create a nucleus of scientific thought and a place of constant innovation of knowledge of entrepreneurs and neighboring areas. Since its establishment, on the university graduated 1500 students who will become known and respected experts, today at the University is educating approximately 3000 students.
